we're on a train to nowhere
Saturday, April 15, 2006with a free day, i figured i'd do some day-tripping.
arriving at atocha station this morning, i was slightly naive to
expect no-one else to have had the same idea on easter saturday. the
queue was longer than 10 minutes, which was how long i had to catch
the train i'd hoped for.
change of plan; go somewhere different and closer.
on the train i jumped, aiming for another station in the north of
madrid, where i would purchase my ticket for the final destination.
twenty minutes later, im in pitis. off i head into the station to buy
my ticket.
'una ida y vuelta a el escorial' (yeh, i wasn't messing about) and
handed over my bank card.
'we don't take cards,' came the response.
incredible. i left the station to look for a cashpoint.
i don't know why pitis deserves a train AND metro station because it
is in the middle of nowhere. i couldn't even see a house. i can only
assume that marmots make use of this public transport phenomena.
so, i ended up stood on an empty platform at pitis, singing gnarls out
loud (there was no-one to hear me), rather annoyed that the only place
i'd managed to get to see was marmotville central.
